Other
- Faith:
- I will use this space to air some thoughts on life, thought,
perspectives, and the world, with an emphasis on faith and religion.
Faith
- Many times I have heard faith refered to as believing
in things you've got no good or logical reason to believe in.
I
think that is totally wrong. That implies you have no reason to believe
in God and it means you are a fool. Faith really means trust. If I say
I have faith in you there would be no doubt as to the definition. It
means I trust you. It means the same in reference to God. I
trust
God.
Love
- I think love is such a complex and misunderstood
concept. Many
people seem to think of love as fanciful love. Like it's all
butterflies and rainbows and happiness and joy. Real love can be sad and it can
painful too. It is as much about sacrifice as it is about good
feelings. I'm not saying love is all pain either but real love
is
a multifaceted thing. So how does this apply in regards to my
understanding of God? God gives us life but we disobey him and the
penalty is death. God becomes a man and allows himself to be killed by
us to pay that price. In doing so he demonstrates the depth of his love
for us and makes it possible for us to have a personal relationship
with him that will last for all eternity. But making it possible
doesn't mean everybody just gets it. You
have to submit yourself to his will and ask
forgiveness for
your crimes against him. It's really not asking very much but so very
many people will still perish, but why? I don't think it's the
asking forgiveness that trips people up. It's the obedience.
Thats what it's been about from the very beginning. God loves
and
expects love in very real terms. Obey me and serve each other. Christ
said "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom
of
heaven; but he who does the will of My Father who is in
heaven.".
Todays World
- "For the time will come when men will not put up with sound
doctrine.
Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a
great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to
hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn
aside
to myths."
- Yup, that pretty much sums it up. Thats from II Timothy.
Kids
- "And if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe
in me to
sin, it would be better for him to be thrown into the sea with a large
millstone tied around his neck." - Christ
- As much as God is the God of peace and a loving God he can
also
be a wrathful God. For those who target kids to soften them to
be accepting of sin you can know your
meeting with the Lord on judgement day is not going to be a pleasant
one.
- Go God Go!
- Ok, ok, I know I should be praying for them to see the
light and
mend thier ways and find salvation. I guess I'm just too flawed for
that. In my mind as long as they are on the offensive they are the
enemy and I wish for thier defeat. I see the scars of thier influence
carried by so many kids, and the world in general, I can't help but be
insenced by it.
Tolkein
Frodo and Sam
are climbing a mountain pass on their way to into Mordor. It is a
barren rocky place overshadowed by dark cloud and as mournful a place
as you could possibly imagine. The very ground is tortured and broken
full of pits and slag and poison. They are terrified, exhausted and
full of despair but in the midst of all this they see a single ray of
light escape through the clouds revealing a small sapling growing
amongst the rocks. Frodo has a sudden realization and says
“It can’t last forever. The darkness I mean. As bad
as it may seem in the end it must give way. The light can be hidden or
covered up but it cannot be destroyed.” With that thought
hope grew in their hearts and they had the strength to go on.
Knowing what I know of
Tolkein that was an example of the incredibly subtle way a great and
glorious God reveals himself and through such a simple act can change
not only the lives of Frodo and Sam but the whole world. How could evil
ever stand against such unfathomable power and mystery and grace? Evil
cannot even perceive it let alone understand it. Do not be afraid.
There is hope. There is always hope.
